Ibrahimovic and Lukaku can play together: Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has cleared questions which lie in the minds of Man united fans as to how the team would line up having the likes of Lukaku and Ibrahimovic around. "it would be “easy” for Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to play together at Manchester United," Mourinho said.

Having signed Lukaku from Everton for £90m in the summer with the striker taking the No 9 shirt worn by Ibrahimovic last season after the 36-year-old contract expired.

United re-signed the former Sweden international in August and Mourinho confirmed on Friday that the forward is set to return to the squad following knee ligament damage he suffered in April for Saturday’s Premier League game against Newcastle.

Ibrahimovic’s return has led to questions regarding Lukaku’s place in the starting line-up, after a run of seven league appearances without a goal for the 24-year old. Mourinho believes the duo can play together since they are good players

Ibrahimovic hinted at loving the number 10 role and suggested he could drop into a number 10 role when he makes his much anticipated comeback, though Mourinho has warned not to expect an immediate impact.

The forward scored 26 goals in 48 appearances for United last season, helping the side win three trophies including Community shield, EFL Cup, Europa League and the United boss has urged to give him time.

“He [Zlatan] made a full recovery,” added the United boss. “Now you cannot expect him to play 90 minutes or to be ready to play consecutive matches like he did all his career.

“He needs times to be back to his fitness, his confidence, his sharpness. But from the clinical point of view, to be back and ready is fantastic.”
