Messi expresses huge respect for Mikel

Barcelona star, Lionel Messi has disclosed that he has a high level of everlasting respect for Tianjin Teda of China midfielder, John Mikel Obi, and is looking forward to another healthy moment between them when Nigeria meet Argentina in the World Cup.

Though Messi admits he and Mikel are not close friends, as his words would suggest, he recounts how close he has come with the Super Eagles captain during some past matches and says it would be another moment to respect each other come June 2, 2018 in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Messi and Mikel first came up close in the final of Holland 2005 FIFA U20 World Cup, in which Argentina beat Nigeria 2-1 during the final, and the Barca star remembers he has exchanged greetings with the Nigerian captain on similar occasions.

Surprisingly, Mikel voted for Messi in the Best FIFA Football Awards Men’s Player of the Year poll, which the five-time Ballon d’Or winner hinted is another aspect of the respect they both hold forever for each other.

”We played many times against each other, but never talked. Simply a greeting and respect forever,” added Messi.
